More than two weeks of NBA Summer League action tipped off Saturday in San Francisco and Sacramento as part of the 2024 California Classic. Bronny James was the most notable name, but a handful of other prospects hungry to stake their NBA claim had plenty to say on Day 1:

Adonis Arms, Sacramento #2

The awesomely-named Arms was more than happy to shoulder past James (four points, 2-for-9 FGs) into the spotlight with a game-high 32 points on just 17 shots in Sacramento’s victory over Los Angeles. The burly guard also did a reasonable Josh Hart impression, pulling down 11 rebounds — another game high — with five assists and two steals to round out a dominant all-around performance.

Mouhamadou Gueye, Charlotte

A deep reserve last season for Toronto, Gueye made an immediate mark with his new team, leading all scorers with 21 points in 22 minutes against San Antonio. The 6-foot-9 project from Staten Island did a little bit of everything, stepping out for a pair of 3-pointers while also showing off his defensive prowess with three blocks and two steals. Foul trouble (seven!) was his lone blemish.

Daeqwon Plowden, Golden State

If you’re going to focus almost exclusively on scoring, you might as well fill it up. That’s exactly what the sweet-shooting Plowden did against the Lakers, pouring in six 3-pointers on his way to 26 points. He didn’t do much else with only two assists, a rebound and a steal, but his production and floor spacing were massive in a game the Warriors dominated by 39 points.

Ethan Thompson, Golden State

It was more than a little jarring to see a Thompson lighting it up from deep for Golden State just days after the legendary Splash Brothers broke up. In this case, it was former Oregon State standout Ethan channeling his inner Klay with a game-high 27 points (10-for-15 FGs), including three 3-pointers, to lead Golden State past frigid Miami (28.9% FGs).
