McBride was drafted by the Thunder in the 2nd round 6th pick, 36th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Later that year, on August 6, 2021, McBride was traded to the Knicks. McBride has spent his first three seasons with the Knicks (2021-24) averaging 11.0 minutes, 1.0 assists, and 0.9 rebounds through 142 career games.

McBride played two seasons with West Virginia (2019-21). In 60 games over two seasons, McBride averaged 28.0 minutes, 12.6 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.1 rebounds. McBride was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team his freshman season (2019-20).
