Player Bio

Chimezie Chukwudum Metu was born in Los Angeles, California in 1997. When he was six years old, Metu moved to Nigeria with his father. He lived in Nigeria for the following six years, building athleticism by playing soccer. Metu eventually moved back to California, attending and playing basketball at Lawndale High School. He played for the varsity team as a freshman, averaging 3.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest. His playing time and production grew over the following three seasons, and Metu was considered a four-star recruit by the end of his senior year. Following his first NBA season, Metu joined SA Youth and Spurs Sports & Entertainment to help refurbish a playground in the San Antonio area. Learn more about Metu by following him on Twitter (@Chimezie_Metu) and Instagram (@mezie). Metu was named to the 2017-18 All-Pac-12 First Team. In his sophomore year, the Lawndale, California native collected the 2016-17 Pac-12 Most Improved Player award and was pegged for the 16-17 All-Pac-12 Second Team. He was third in the Pac-12 in two-point field goals (193) and two-point field-goal attempts (352) during the 2017-18 season, while finishing fourth in the conference in blocks (59), field goals (205) and blocks per game (1.7). After graduating in three years, Metu skipped his fourth year of eligibility and entered the 2018 NBA Draft. Metu was drafted in the second round (49th overall pick) by the San Antonio Spurs.
