Player Bio

Furkan Korkmaz was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He began playing basketball at the age of nine. Korkmaz played for the junior and youth teams of Anadolu Efes in 2013 before moving to the senior men's Efes first team in 2014. He also played for the junior national teams of Turkey in 2013, 2014 and 2015. At the 2013 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, he led all players in scoring. The following year, he led Turkey to a gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship. At the 2015 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, Korkmaz won a silver medal and was named to the All-Tournament Team, and at the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, he won a bronze medal and was again named to the All-Tournament Team. The Istanbul native began his professional career as a 16-year-old wing with Pertevnyal in the 2013-14 season. He appeared in 23 games and averaged 4.2 points. The following season, he moved up to the first-tier team with Anadolu Efes. He helped the team win the Turkish Cup in his first season and averaged 5.3 points while hitting 43.8 percent of his three-pointers. Korkmaz was named an All-Star in all three of his seasons in Turkey, and he won a second Turkish Cup in 2017 with Banvit. He was also named the Champions League Best Player in 2017. The 6-foot-7 wing has also represented Turkey in international competition, including the 2013 FIBA Europe Under-16, 2014 FIBA Europe Under-18, and 2015 FIBA World Cup Under-19, where Turkey won a bronze medal and Korkmaz was named to the All-Tournament Team. Korkmaz also played in EuroBasket 2015 and 2017. He was chosen with the 26th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, but he didn't make his NBA debut until the 2017-18 campaign.
