Player Bio

Tristan Trevor James Thompson was born in 1991 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada to Trevor and Andrea Thompson. He went locally to St. Marguerite d'Youville Secondary School for his freshman year before transferring to Saint Benedict's Prep School in New Jersey. At the tail end of his junior season, Thompson moved on to Findlay Prep in Nevada and helped the team win a National Championship. As a senior, he averaged 15.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks en route to a 32-2 record. Thompson was subsequently named as a McDonald's All-American, Jordan Brand Classic All-Star and Nike Hoop Summit invitee. He has represented Canada at a few events, most notably when he won a bronze medal at the 2008 FIBA Americas U-18 Championship. In honor of his youngest brother, Thompson established the Amari Thompson Fund to support and spread awareness about epilepsy. You can follow him on Twitter (@RealTristan13) and Instagram (@realtristan13). After a prolific and wide-ranging high school career in Canada and prep school, Thompson moved south to play college ball at Texas. The forward played for coach Dan Hurley at St. Benedict's as well as winning a national championship with fellow Canadian Cory Joseph at Findley Prep. For Texas, Thompson came off the bench for the first two games of the season before coach Rick Barnes installed him into the starting lineup. The 6-foot-8 forward responded by leading the team with 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks along with 13.1 points. He accumulated 10 double-doubles, including 17 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Michigan State. The Longhorns rolled to 11 straight wins in Big 12 play before stumbling in February. Texas advanced to the finals of the Big 12 Tournament behind a pair of double-doubles from Thompson before losing to Kansas. The squad earned a No. 4 seed at the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Round of 32. After one season with the Longhorns, Thompson announced his availability for the 2011 NBA Draft, where he was drafted fourth overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
