Maxwell was drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the 40th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and was acquired by the Lakers as part of a four-team trade on June 22, 2023. He appeared in 34 career games (no starts) for the Lakers, leading the team in steals for one game.

Maxwell appeared in 52 games (33 starts) for Pepperdine, averaging 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 26.6 minutes. He scored in double figures in 35 games, including 16 games with 20+ points. He tallied two career double-doubles, and made multiple three pointers in 25 games, including twelve games with 3+ threes. He was named All-WCC Second Team for the 2022-23 season and WCC All-Freshman for the 2021-22 season.

Maxwell was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, the son of Robert and Jennifer Lewis. He has five siblings: Mario, Myloe, who played football at Victory Valley College, Marcus, who played football at Iowa State, Monique, who ran track at UNLV, and Gabby. Maxwell is an amateur boxer and accomplished saxophonist. He gave up his senior year of high school basketball to train for the 2021 NBA Draft, but later elected to go to college. He was a four-star recruit who at one time was rated among the nation’s top 100 players in the class of 2021.
