Player Bio

Jarrett Allen was born in 1998 in Austin, Texas. He is the son of Leonard and Cheryl Allen. Jarrett's father, Leonard, played college ball at San Diego State, was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks and played professional basketball in Europe. Allen attended his freshman year of high school at Round Rock High School in Round Rock, Texas. He then transferred to St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin for his final three years. At St. Stephen's, Allen led the Spartans to two SPC championships. After his senior season, Allen was named a 2016 McDonald's All-American. For three years running, Allen has hosted Meals + Math, a Thanksgiving event in which he provides money for groceries to local children and their families to help teach them about math and food budgeting. In 2016-17, the big center provided 13.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for the Longhorns. He appeared in and started all 33 games for UT and shot an effective 56.6 percent from the field. The Texas native recorded 12 double-doubles, including a 22-point, 19-rebound effort in a Jan. 21 loss at No. 2 Kansas. His point and rebound total in that game were both college career-highs for Allen. Allen scored 20 points or more three times. At the end of the season, Allen was named to the All-Big 12 Conference Third Team and Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. Allen also earned a spot on the Fall 2016 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (minimum 3.0 GPA).
