Player Bio

Murray was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada in 1997. He is the son of Sylvia and Roger Murray and has one brother, Lamar. Murray attended Grand River Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, later transferring to Orangeville Prep in Orangeville, Ontario, where his father was an assistant coach and he was teammates with fellow NBA player Thon Maker. Murray meditates before every basketball game and has frequently competed for Team Canada in international play. Follow the guard on Twitter (@BeMore27) and Instagram (@jmglitxh27). Murray collected 2015-16 All-Southeast Conference First-Team honors and was named to the 15-16 SEC All-Freshman squad. The Ontario, Canada native was also named to the 2016 All-SEC Tournament First Team as Kentucky won the SEC Tournament. The guard also led the Wildcats to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. In his only collegiate season, Murray led the SEC in field goals (244), field-goal attempts (538) three-point field goals (113), and three-point field-goal attempts (277). In addition, he was second in points (720) and third in the SEC in both three-point field-goal percentage (.408) and points per game (20). Murray announced that he would enter the 2016 NBA Draft after his freshman year at Kentucky. He was taken in the first round (seventh overall) in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.
