Western Conference playoff scenarios entering Sunday's games

The race is wild now: Six teams playing for five playoff spots, all to be decided over the next four days, and with all of those teams on either 45 or 46 wins.

There were no clinchers on Saturday, and – just like in the East – the potential first-round bracket was unchanged. San Antonio and Utah both could have wrapped up their postseason berths, but didn’t get the help they needed from other teams. The Spurs pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Portland, and Oklahoma City snapped Houston’s 20-game home winning streak.

The Thunder, Pelicans and Spurs can all win their way into the postseason on Monday. Oklahoma City visits Miami, New Orleans visits the Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio hosts Sacramento.

Meanwhile, for the first time in seven years, the Clippers are not heading to the playoffs.

Here’s a breakdown of the postseason scenarios for each team:

Blazers: 3rd in West

  • If they go 2-0, they’re the 3-seed
  • If they go 1-1 and Utah goes 2-1 or 1-2, they’re the 3-seed

Jazz: 4th in West

  • If they go 3-0, they’re the 3-seed
  • Utah has split the season series with MIN/DEN, won tiebreakers over SAS/NOP/POR, lost tiebreaker to OKC

Pelicans: 5th in West

  • 2-0 and they’re in
  • 1-1 and they’re in
  • 0-2 and one of Denver and Minnesota goes 0-2 and they’re in.
  • Only out if 0-2 and DEN/MIN both go 2-0/1-1

Spurs: 6th in West

  • 2-0 and they’re in
  • 1-1 and they’re in
  • 0-2 and Denver or Minnesota goes 0-2 and they’re in

Thunder: 7th in West

  • 2-0 and they’re in
  • 1-1 and they’re in
  • 0-2 and one of Denver or Minnesota goes 0-2 and they’re in
  • Only out if 0-2 and DEN/MIN both go 2-0/1-1

Wolves: 8th in West

  • 2-0 and they’re in
  • 1-1 if Denver loses to Portland and they’re in.
  • 0-2 and they’re out
  • 1-1 if Denver goes 2-0 and they’re out

Nuggets: 9th in West

  • 0-2 and they’re out
  • 1-1 and unless OKC/NOP go 0-2, they’re out
  • 2-0 and they’re in
