SACRAMENTO — Bryce McGowens tallied a game-high 29 points to lead the Charlotte Hornets to an 86-82 victory over the Sacramento Kings 1 in the California Classic Summer League at Golden 1 Center on Tuesday.

The game had a competitive start as the Hornets held a three-point edge after one quarter. The Kings 1 turned up the heat in the second and outscored the Hornets 28-20 to claim a five-point lead at the break. The Hornets took their game to another level in the third where they outscored the Kings 1 by 15 points for a 10-point advantage heading into the final frame. The Kings 1 kept fighting and cut it to a three-point game in the final minutes, but the Hornets came up clutch to close it out.

McGowens shot 9-for-17 from the field and added five rebounds and a steal to his game-high scoring display for the Hornets. Jake Stephens followed up with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, while Zavier Simpson added 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. led the Kings 1 with 19 points on 9-for-15 shooting, along with nine rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Adonis Arms followed up with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block, while Xavier Sneed totaled 15 points, nine rebounds and a block.

After the Sacramento Kings 2 face Golden State on Wednesday to close out the California Classic Summer League, Sacramento will face Memphis on Friday as part of the Las Vegas Summer League, while the Hornets will square off against the Knicks on Saturday in Las Vegas.
