Pre-Draft Outlook

After years of creating a team organically through the Draft, the Magic finally saw the potential this season. Orlando has at least three young building blocks — Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs — and others to be used in possible trades. It’s a good situation for an up-and-comer, to have very few if any dead-weight pieces on the roster going forward.

The Way To Go

Orlando can try to accelerate their growth by taking a shortcut, or allow it to keep taking a step at a time. If that’s the case, they’ll trust their Draft instincts once again and keep their pick, the 18th overall. They can go a variety of ways here, and settle for a player who falls unexpectedly. Or use it on a defensive specialist if Jonathan Isaac is traded as expected. Yves Missi, a 6-foot-10 raw and athletic rim protector from Baylor, wouldn’t be a bad choice.
