Overview

Originally from Chicago, Reaves played prep ball at Shadow Mountain in Phoenix before transferring to Simeon Career Academy in his hometown. He started his collegiate career at Illinois State, playing three years before transferring to Kentucky for two seasons. Reeves initially entered the 2021 NBA Draft process after his second season with Illinois State but returned to school, averaging a career-high 20.1 points en route to being named second-team All-MVC. He parlayed that strong season into a scholarship with Kentucky after the Redbirds’ coach Dan Muller was fired. Reeves performed well, earning SEC co-Sixth Man of the Year in his first season as a Wildcat. He tested the NBA waters again before returning for a fifth collegiate season where he averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 31.5 minutes while shooting 44.7% from deep on 5.7 attempts per game. Reeves was named first-team All-SEC and third-team All-American.

Analysis

At 6-foot-5, Reeves is an elite three-point shooter, but his jumper is a set shot with limited lift, which may be difficult to get off in the NBA. He has the skill set to be a capable 3-and-D professional, but at 24 years old, Reeves isn’t an ideal prospect. He developed into a savvy all-around player in college, but his three-point prowess makes him worthy of NBA consideration.

Projection

Reeves needs to display his sharpshooting prowess early, similar to Sam Hauser and Matt Ryan, who both showed promise as older prospects in the G League before getting NBA opportunities. If Reeves finds his way into a rotation, he could have an impact like Naji Marshall, who was a Swiss Army Knife off the bench for New Orleans in 2023-24 and shot 38.7% from deep on 2.3 attempts per game.
