Podziemski, 21, averaged 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 26.6 minutes per game over 74 appearances (28 starts) during his rookie campaign. Among all rookies he ranked third in 3-point field goal percentage (38.5), fifth in assists (3.7), sixth in rebounds (5.8), eighth in minutes (26.6) and 10th&nbsp;in both scoring (9.2) and steals (0.8).

The 6-4 guard recorded 17 games of at least 10 points, five rebounds and five assists, the second-most such games among all rookies, trailing only San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama (23). His 38 charges drawn led the NBA. Podziemski paced Golden State with 427 total rebounds (the most by a Warriors rookie since Joe Smith grabbed a team-high 717 boards during the 1995-96 season) and plus/minus with a plus-264, the second-highest mark among all rookies (Chet Holmgren, plus-423). He was selected to play in the 2024 Panini Rising Stars game as part of NBA All-Star Weekend, becoming the fifth Warrior in the last five seasons to earn the honor.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has won the 2023-24 Magic Johnson Award, which honors the NBA player who best combines excellence on the court with cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans, the Professional Basketball Writers Association announced today. Curry, who also won the award in 2016, is just the third two-time honoree, joining Damian Lillard (2017, 2020) and Shane Battier (2007,2013).

Curry averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game this season, leading the Warriors to a 46-36 record. Off the court, Curry consistently fostered an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness with reporters who cover the NBA.

Curry was one of five finalists for the award, based on nominations from PBWA members. The others were Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat, DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls, Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers. A vote of the full PBWA membership determined the winner.

The award, created in 2001, is named in honor of Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the former Los Angeles Lakers star, who was consistently engaging, thoughtful and gracious with the media throughout his Hall of Fame career. The PBWA is composed of more than 200 writers and editors who cover the NBA regularly for newspapers, magazines and online news outlets.

Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr has won the 2023-24 Rudy Tomjanovich Award, which honors an NBA coach for his cooperation with the media and fans, as well as his excellence on the court, the Professional Basketball Writers Association announced today. Kerr is the Tomjanovich Award's first three-time honoree, having previously won in 2015 and 2018.

This season, Kerr guided the Warriors to a 46-36 record and handled every situation with patience and grace. Kerr is consistently thoughtful and engaging with the media, and generous with his time.

Kerr was one of five finalists for the Tomjanovich award, based on nominations from PBWA members. The others were Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Darvin Ham of the Los Angeles Lakers, Michael Malone of the Denver Nuggets and Jamahl Mosley of the Orlando Magic. A vote of the full PBWA membership determined the winner.

The award is named for Hall of Famer Rudy Tomjanovich, the former coach of the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers, who always was professional and respectful while dealing with the media. During his 13 seasons as an NBA head coach, Tomjanovich compiled a 527-416 regular-season record and a 51-39 postseason record. His Rockets won back-to-back NBA titles in 1994 and 1995.

The PBWA is composed of more than 200 writers and editors who cover the NBA on a regular basis for newspapers, online news outlets and magazines.

The Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings announced today that they will be partnering to host an expanded dual California Classic Summer League event in both San Francisco and Sacramento this summer. The sixth annual California Classic Summer League will feature three days of game play at Chase Center on July 6, 7 and 10 between the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat. The games at Golden 1 Center on July 6,7 and 9 will feature the Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets. The Summer League will include a total of 12 games featuring primarily rookies selected in the 2024 NBA Draft, along with players competing to make the NBA and G League regular season rosters.

The event will culminate in a final Northern California battle featuring the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center on July 10. Similar to other Summer League matches, modified game play rules will be in place, including 10 minute quarters. In addition, the three days will include exciting family friendly entertainment. Before the games, Chase Center’s Thrive City will host California Classic Fan Fests featuring multiple fan-friendly activities such as carnival games, live music, lawn games, and more. The fan fests are free and open to the public.

Chase Center California Classic multi-day pass presales for Season Ticket Members begin Thursday, May 9 at 10 a.m., with additional Warriors Dub Club Member presales starting at 12 p.m. Warriors Insider Members will have access to tickets beginning Friday, May 10 at 12 p.m.

WNBA Golden State has named Ohemaa Nyanin as the team’s general manager, it was announced today. In her role, Nyanin will oversee all basketball operations, inclusive of roster construction, team building and player development. Nyanin will report to Warriors Co-Executive Chairman and CEO, Joe Lacob, and will begin her tenure with the team on May 13, 2024.

“Ohemaa is the perfect fit to lead our WNBA basketball operations as we prepare for our inaugural season in 2025,” said Lacob. “As we moved through the GM hiring process, it became more apparent each day how impressive and well-versed Ohemaa is in all facets of the business, and as a person. &nbsp;She brings an incredible knowledge of the WNBA and international women’s basketball landscape from her time with the Liberty and USA Basketball. Additionally, she has a deep passion and desire to build a strong culture and, ultimately, win basketball games. We are thrilled to welcome her to Golden State.”&nbsp;

Nyanin joins WNBA Golden State from the New York Liberty where she spent over five years in a variety of capacities, most recently as the team’s assistant general manager. As assistant general manager, Nyanin served as the primary liaison between the basketball and business operations teams, assisting with free agency, trade, salary cap management, and extension of the roster. Her previous roles with the Liberty include director of basketball operations (2020-22) and manager of basketball operations (2019-20). During her five seasons with the Liberty, the team notched three WNBA Playoffs appearances, including a trip to the 2023 WNBA Finals as the second-overall seed.

“I am truly honored to be chosen as the first general manager of WNBA Golden State,” said Nyanin. “Throughout the interview process, it was clear that bringing a WNBA team to the Bay Area was meticulously thought out and those involved are motivated changemakers who will be proactive in growing the league. I look forward to joining this franchise and building a competitive basketball team that the fans deserve.”

Since 2016, Nyanin has served as FIBA Americas World Cup Qualifier Technical Delegate and Manager. Throughout her tenure, she’s held numerous roles, including the event lead of the 2024 Women’s Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Brazil, Co-Technical Commissioner of the 2022 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, and the Official FIBA Representative at FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifier Games around the world.

Prior to her time with the Liberty, Nyanin spent five years as USA Basketball’s assistant director of the women’s national team where she led youth national teams to international competitions, managing delegation logistics and serving as a translator in Spanish-speaking countries. Nyanin played an integral role in the USA Basketball Women’s National Team winning a gold medal at both the 2016 Olympics, held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and the 2018 World Cup, held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

Born in Maryland to parents from Ghana, Ghanaian American Nyanin grew up spending time in five different countries: Philippines, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Chile and the United States. She graduated from American University with a Masters of Science in justice and public policy in 2011, after earning her Bachelor of Arts in international relations and foreign language and communications in 2009. She competed for American University’s women’s basketball team during her time on campus.

WNBA Golden State will be headquartered in Oakland and play home games at Chase Center in San Francisco. The Warriors’ Oakland Facility, which served as the Golden State Warriors’ practice facility and front office from 1997-2019, will be the WNBA team’s headquarters, housing a world-class practice facility and the team’s front office staff. In celebration of the 25th Anniversary, Warriors Basketball Academy will host two overnight camps at the Warriors Basketball Facility in Oakland. This marks the third consecutive year the team has hosted an overnight camp.

Curry led the league in several clutch categories, including points (189), 3-pointers (32) and field goals made (59), hitting 49.6% from the field, 45.7% from 3-point range and 39-of-41 from the free throw line (95.1%).

Curry hit a pair of game-winning shots with less than one second remaining, converting a layup with 0.2 seconds left to give the Warriors a 141-139 win at Oklahoma City on Nov. 3 and a 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds remaining to give the Warriors a 113-112 victory over Phoenix on Feb. 10. He totaled 13 made field goals with fewer than 24 seconds left, including game-clinching buckets on Dec. 9 vs. Portland, Dec. 16 vs. Brooklyn and Dec. 19 vs. Boston.

On Jan. 27 vs. the Lakers, Curry hit a game-tying layup with 5.9 seconds remaining, followed by a steal with 3.5 seconds left, to force overtime against the Lakers. His ninth 3-pointer of the game put the Warriors ahead by one with 4.7 seconds remaining in double-OT before the Lakers answered back.

On Feb. 3 at Atlanta, Curry scored a career-high 22 fourth quarter points and hit a go-ahead layup with 13.8 seconds remaining before the Hawks forced overtime, where he scored eight of Golden State’s 11 points en route to his second career 60-point performance.

Curry, 36, recently completed his franchise-record 15th season with the Warriors, earning his 10th career NBA All-Star nod and posting averages of 26.4 points, 5.1 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 32.7 minutes in 74 games (all starts). Curry led the NBA in 3-point field goals for the eighth time in his career with 357 threes—the third most in a single-season in NBA history, hitting 40.8% from behind-the-arc. He finished second in the league in free throw percentage behind teammate Klay Thompson, hitting 92.3% from the line.

Golden State played in a league-leading 48 clutch games this season (games within five points with five or fewer minutes remaining). Chicago’s DeMar DeRozan and Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were previously named finalists for the award based on voting results from a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox won the inaugural Clutch Player of the Year award last season.
