Isaiah Thomas drops 32 points in debut with SLC Stars of G League

The 35-year-old guard, who was last in the NBA during the 2021-22 season, is hoping for another shot in the league.

2-time All-Star Isaiah Thomas last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season.

Playing his first game for the Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, guard Isaiah Thomas poured in a game-high 32 points in a 127-116 victory over the Texas Legends.

Thomas, who started the game for the Stars, played 39 minutes. In addition to the 32 points, Thomas added four assists while connecting on five 3-pointers.

A two-time NBA All-Star, Thomas, 35, played 11 seasons in the NBA, averaging 17.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists. The former All-NBA performer most notably played with the Celtics, where he earned his career-best statistical seasons from 2015-17, averaging 24.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg and 6 apg en route to three playoff appearances in Boston.

Thomas last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season, when he split time between the Los Angeles Lakers (four games), Dallas Mavericks (one game) and Charlotte Hornets (17 games). Overall that season, he posted 8.4 ppg and 1.5 apg and played well down the stretch for the Hornets.

He also appeared in four games for the Grand Rapids Gold in 2021-22, posting 41.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 6.8 apg, including a 42-point performance in his G League debut on Dec. 15, 2021.

A native of Tacoma, Wash., Thomas played three seasons at the University of Washington, where he was named First-Team All-Pac-10 as both a sophomore and a junior (2010, ’11). Thomas also earned Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-Pac-10 honors for the Huskies (’09).
