California Classic Summer League: Jaquez Jr., Heat dispatch Lakers

Miami rides 58-40 first half to an easy win over Los Angeles in Summer League opener.

The Miami Heat defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 107-90, in the California Classic Summer League at Golden 1 Center on Monday.

Miami kickstarted this game with a 22-16 first quarter and took command behind a 36-24 second quarter. That 18-point lead allowed the Heat to maintain a double-digit lead for the entirety of the second half. The Heat shot 38 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range (15-of-33) while holding the Lakers to 33 percent from the field and 21 percent from long range (5-of-24). Miami also out-assisted LA, 24-16, while outscoring them in fastbreak points, 17-4.

The Heat (1-0) were led by Jaime Jaquez Jr, collecting 22 points and three rebounds. Nikola Jovic had 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Orlando Robinson totaled 13 points and eight boards, while Dru Smith accrued 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Chase Audige led the bench with 18 points.

The Lakers (0-1) were led by Max Christie, tallying 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jalen Hood-Schifino amassed 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. L.J. Figueroa finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Colin Castleton led the bench with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Both of these teams return to action on Wednesday, with Miami playing the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles facing off with the San Antonio Spurs.
