The Cleveland Cavaliers have been looking for some new faces to add to their front office of late, and one name that consistently came up as a potential candidate was former All-Star and Finals MVP Chauncey Billups.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com, though, Billups took his name out of the running for front-office roles with the Cavs today. Here’s more from Wojnarowski on the move (which was also reported by USA Today‘s Jeff Zilllgitt):
Chauncey Billups has withdrawn from consideration for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ president of basketball operations job, league sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Billups had met twice last week with Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert about a future with the club. They have known each other for a decade, and Gilbert is looking for someone to oversee the Cavaliers’ front office after general manager David Griffin parted ways with the team following three straight trips to the NBA Finals.
Billups knew he would be a possible candidate in Cleveland for several weeks as it became clear a breakup between the Cavs and Griffin was likely. However, Billups is happy living with his family in Denver and commuting to Los Angeles to do television work at ESPN.
Can confirm Chauncey Billups decision to withdraw his name from Cavs president of basketball ops job. Had been leaning that way for a while.

With Billups out, who should Dan Gilbert and the @Cavs look at now?https://t.co/KPlPsK27Wx

Told one factor with Chauncey Billups withdrawing from Cavs search was staff concerns. Also money disparity was significant.

Will be interesting to see if Dan Gilbert has a "Plan B" to run the Cavs. Koby Altman running point for now in Cleveland.
