Richaun Diante Holmes was born in 1993 in Lockport, Illinois, about 30 miles southwest of Chicago. He is the son of Richard Sr. and Lydecia Holmes. His parents are both Doctors of Divinity who run a church in Chicago. He has three brothers and attended and played basketball at Lockport Township High School. During his high school days, he grew from 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-9. Holmes then played collegiate ball for one season at Moraine Valley Community College before transferring to Bowling Green State University. At Bowling Green, Holmes majored in liberal studies. As a pro, Holmes annually hosts a two-day basketball camp in his hometown at his old high school, Lockport Township, for boys and girls ages 7-18. The goal is to "develop fundamentally strong athletes by teaching solid training methods through professional, knowledgeable and positive coaching, while implementing the importance of good character and moral values." Richaun Holmes played one season (2011-12) of collegiate ball at Moraine Valley Community College, before transferring to Bowling Green State University. Holmes then spent three years at Bowling Green. During is first season with the Falcons, Holmes was a frontcourt reserve. He appeared in 32 games, with two starts, and averaged 6.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks over 18.8 minutes per contest. Holmes shifted into the starting lineup as a junior in 2013-14 and increased his production to 13.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks over 32 minutes per game. The big forward continued to blossom as a senior in 2014-15. He generated 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 0.6 three-pointers over 28.8 minutes per game while shooting 56.3 percent from the field. His shooting accuracy was ranked first in the MAC. The Lockport, Illinois native was named to the 2014-15 All Mid-American Conference first team. Holmes also finished 19th in the nation in blocked shots per game. He ended his days with the Falcons as the only player in Bowling Green State University men's basketball history to register 1,000 career points, 600 career rebounds and 200 career blocks.
