Rockets, Jalen Green reportedly agree to 3-year extension

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft has agreed to an extension with Houston.

Jalen Green averaged 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season.

Rockets guard Jalen Green has agreed on a three-year contract extension to remain in Houston. Per multiple reports, the deal is worth up to $106 million.

The second overall pick in 2021 had until 6 p.m. ET to sign rookie-scale contract extensions.

Green has shown flashes of greatness in his first three seasons but has mostly been known for his inconsistency. He turned heads last March when he went on a scoring tear to lead the Rockets to 11 straight wins. Green put up 30 or more points five times in eight of those games. He finished the season averaging 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

The Rockets finished the 2023-24 season with a 41-41 record. After making a 19-game improvement in the first season under coach Ime Udoka, the Rockets have adopted a playoffs-or-bust mantra this season.

More consistent play from Green could be the recipe the Rockets need to reach the postseason for the first time since James Harden led the team in 2020.
