The Toronto Raptors and guard Scottie Barnes will be paired together for several more seasons. The team confirmed Monday that Barnes has signed a five-year rookie extension.

Per reports, the deal will be worth about $225 million over five years and could reach about $270 million if he meets supermax criteria. Barnes’ new deal would begin in the 2025-26 season, with a starting salary of about $39 million and reaching about $51 million in 2029-30 — unless he qualifies for a supermax contract next season, and then the numbers would get even higher.

Last season, Barnes was a first-time All-Star and averaged 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 47.5% overall and 34.1% on 3-pointers. The 2020-21 Kia Rookie of the Year winner, Barnes is the focal point for Toronto as it continues to rebuild itself after winning the NBA title in the 2018-19 season.

Barnes will make about $10 million this coming season, the last of his rookie deal.

He was named an All-Star in early February after Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid was ruled out due to injury. However, his banner season was limited in 2023-24 as a hand injury in early March ended his season and limited him to 60 games.

In his three NBA seasons, the former Florida State star is averaging 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists. He was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 Draft.

The Raptors are looking to build around Barnes, swingman R.J. Barrett (whom the team acquired in a trade with the New York Knicks last season), center Jakob Poeltl and young forwards Gradey Dick and Jalen McDaniels.

Toronto has the No. 19 and 31 picks in the 2024 NBA Draft.
