The Toronto Raptors have gotten off to a quick start in the offseason in reshaping their roster. That trend continued on Friday as Toronto reportedly reached a deal with one of its key young players.
Per multiple reports, Raptors guard Immanuel Quickley plans to sign a five-year, $175 million deal to stay with the team. Toronto added Quickley and fellow swingman RJ Barrett shortly before the calendar turned to 2024 in the trade that sent OG Anunoby, Malachi Flynn and Precious Achiuwa to the New York Knicks.
Last season, Quickley hit his stride with the Raptors, averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game while shooting 42.2% overall and 39.5% on 3-pointers. Those stats and his increased role (he started all 38 games he played for Toronto) played a large part in Toronto not letting the restricted free agent test the market this summer.

Raptors’ outlook: Toronto started its offseason by ensuring its All-Star, Scottie Barnes, stays in the fold. Per multiple reports, Barnes plans to sign a five-year deal that will be worth about $225 million over five years and could reach about $270 million if he meets supermax criteria.
Last season, Barnes was a first-time All-Star and averaged 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 47.5% overall and 34.1% on 3-pointers. The 2020-21 Kia Rookie of the Year winner, Barnes is the focal point for Toronto as it continues to rebuild itself after winning the NBA title in the 2018-19 season.
While it seems Quickley and Barnes will be in Toronto long-term, the Raptors made a reported move entering Day 2 of the 2024 NBA Draft. Per multiple reports, Toronto traded Jalen McDaniels to the Sacramento Kings for Davion Mitchell, Sasha Vezenkov and the No. 45 pick (Jamal Shead) in the 2024 Draft.
In the first round of the 2024 Draft, the Raptors took guard Ja’Kobe Walter from Baylor with the No. 19 pick. He is an outstanding 3-point shooter who could operate as a specialist.
Overall, Toronto will be building around Barnes, Barrett, Quickley, center Jakob Poeltl, Gradey Dick and its assortment of young players as it tries to recover from a 25-57 finish in 2023-24 and end a two-year playoff drought.
