Sonoran Hot Dog

Sonoran hot dogs trace their origins to the state of Sonora in northern Mexico, where street vendors began crafting a unique twist on the traditional hot dog in the early 20th century. The culinary concept migrated across the border and gained popularity in the southwestern United States, particularly in Arizona. The Arizona version typically features a bacon-wrapped hot dog served in a soft bun and topped with a medley of condiments, creating a flavorful fusion of Mexican and American tastes.

Ingredients:

1 ea. all beef hot dog 5:1
1 ea. split top hot dog bun – extra large
1 ea. bacon
2 oz. pico de gallo with grilled pineapple
1 oz. crème fraiche
2 oz. borracho pinto beans
1 sprig. cilantro

Directions:

  1. Wrap hot dog in bacon.
  2. Cook hot dog on flat top at 350°F or cast iron pan for 6-8 minutes, rotating hot dog after 3-4 minutes until hot dog reaches 165°F internally.
  3. Place hot dog in bun.
  4. Top with pinto beans, pico de gallo, crème fraiche, and garnish with cilantro sprig.
