Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin to have season-ending shoulder surgery

The sophomore guard is expected to have surgery on his right shoulder and make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season.

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, the team announced Saturday. The procedure will be performed by renowned surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles next week.

Mathurin will miss the remainder of the season and is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season. Any additional updates on Mathurin’s status will be provided as appropriate.

What this means: Mathurin averaged 14.5 points this season and established himself as the leader on the Pacers bench this season. The sophomore guard was named the MVP of the 2024 Rising Stars game as part of this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend.

The Pacers (35-29) are currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
