Nuggets' Nikola Jokic, 76ers' Tyrese Maxey named NBA Players of the Week

The superstars in Denver and Philadelphia take home the honors for Week 1.

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey have been named the NBA Players of the Week for Week 1 of the 2023-24 season.

Maxey helped lead the 76ers to a 2-1 record in the opening week of the season with averages of 30.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists. His week was highlighted by his 34-point performance, including shooting 7-for-9 from 3-point range, in Philadelphia’s 114-107 win over Toronto. Maxey is averaging 56% (14-for-25) from 3-point range in three games this season.

He is one of six NBA players this season to make at least seven threes in a game. The Player of the Week honor is the first weekly nod of Maxey’s career.

Jokic led the Nuggets to an undefeated week in Week 1 with averages of 26.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists while shooting .615 from the field and .455 from 3-point range. The reigning Finals MVP dropped a triple-double (29/13/11) in Denver’s season opener against Los Angeles. He then notched back-to-back double-doubles, capped off by his 28-point, 14-rebound showing in the Nuggets’ blowout win over the Thunder on Sunday.

Among the Western Conference, he ranked second in total field goals, second in total rebounds, second in total assists and sixth in scoring.
