Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley reportedly becomes the 4th member of the 2021 NBA Draft class to sign a max extension.

Former third overall pick Evan Mobley has signed a multi-year extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team announced Monday.

“We are thrilled to sign Evan to a long-term extension, solidifying his place as a cornerstone of our franchise,” said Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman. “Evan has quickly established himself as one of the premier defensive players in the league, and we’ve only scratched the surface of his overall potential. Since drafting him, he only knows winning basketball and has proven to be pivotal to our team’s success. His exceptional work ethic, versatility, and commitment to excellence both on and off the court truly embody what it means to be a Cleveland Cavalier. We believe Evan’s best basketball is still ahead of him, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue building something special together for many years to come.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly making versatile big man Evan Mobley the fourth player from the 2021 NBA Draft class to earn a five-year rookie max extension worth at least $224 million, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Mobley, drafted No. 3 overall behind Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green, played a career-low 50 games last season, but continued to post consistent averages of 15.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. His 3.2 apg and 57.9% shooting – including 37.3% from 3-point range – represented career-highs.

He earned All-Rookie First Team honors in 2021-22 and All-Defensive First Team honors in 2022-23, though he wasn’t eligible to repeat after failing to reach the 65-game minimum for awards and honors consideration.
