Donovan Mitchell to miss next 3 games for Cavaliers

The All-Star guard has already been sidelined for the Cavs' previous 2 matchups due to a bone bruise in his left knee.

Donovan Mitchell (center) has already been sidelines for Cleveland’s previous 2 matchups.

Cleveland guard Donovan Mitchell will miss at least the next three games for the Cavaliers, the team announced Monday. Mitchell received a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection earlier today at the Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine center to treat a left knee bone bruise that sidelined him for the Cavaliers previous two games. His status will be re-evaluated over the weekend and updated as appropriate.

What this means: Cleveland isn’t close to being the same team without Mitchell, who played exceptionally well while guard Darius Garland (broken jaw) and forward Evan Mobley (knee surgery) were out for an extended period with injuries.

The Cavs split the two most recent games without Mitchell, winning in Detroit on Friday and falling short to the Knicks at home Sunday. They’ll once again be without their All-Star guard as they begin Week 20 with a visit from the East-leading Celtics. He’ll also miss a road game in Atlanta and a cross-conference matchup against the Timberwolves. He could return as soon as this weekend when Cleveland hosts Brooklyn on Sunday.

Mitchell is averaging 28.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists this season. The Cavs are currently third in the Eastern Conference standings.
