Wednesday’s WNBA Best Bets

Connecticut Sun (-7.5) @ Chicago Sky (+260) – 153.5 O/U (-110/-110)

After returning to the win column earlier this week, the Connecticut Sun are favored over the Chicago Sky on the road tonight. Let’s look at the total, though, and bank on this WNBA matchup being on the lower-scoring side.

Connecticut boasts the best defense in the league, both in terms of points allowed per game (70.7) and defensive efficiency. The Sun have a tight perimeter defense, holding opponents to 29.1% shooting from three-point range. They also limit easy scoring chances at an elite level. The Sun are first in opposing fast-break points and second in both points off turnovers and opposing second-chance points.

The Sun also play at the slowest pace in the WNBA, making it even tougher for opposing teams to get into any offensive rhythm. Although Chicago prefers to play faster (3rd in pace) with five different double-digit scorers in the rotation, points will be harder to come by in this matchup. The Sky are shooting just 28.9% from three this season (2nd-worst in the league) as their offense relies on interior scoring heavily. Connecticut’s excellent team defense should keep Chicago in check.

Expect the Sun to control the flow of this game en route to another likely win. The Sky’s defense is slightly above average, allowing 79.7 PPG. Connecticut should be efficient offensively but will want to keep the tempo slow to avoid Chicago’s fast-break attacking ability. The Sky are 5-2 to the Under in their last seven games. The Sun are 4-2 to the Under in their past six contests.

WNBA Pick: Under 153.5 Total Points (-110)
