Suns vs. Pacers Prediction

Pick: Suns -4.5

Suns Betting Outlook

The Suns have been awesome of late, winning seven straight games as the team has started to gel offensively around its big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. While they may be without Eric Gordon for this matchup, they have plenty of offensive firepower otherwise.

Over the last seven games, the big three have been putting up impressive numbers:

  • Booker: 31.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists
  • Durant: 26.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists
  • Beal: 21.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists

The Suns have been dynamic when Durant, Booker and Beal have shared the floor. They have a +25.1 point differential and are scoring an incredible 135.7 points per 100 possessions. Both the half-court and transition offense are in the 99th percentile. There simply has been no way to slow this team down.

While those lineups still rely primarily on mid-range shots, the efficiency has been incredible from every level. Phoenix overcomes what would traditionally be a poor shot profile because of its elite shot-makers.

Pacers Betting Outlook

The Pacers made waves when they acquired Siakam from the Toronto Raptors, yet the team has only been complete for one game because of Tyrese Haliburton’s injury. Haliburton (hamstring) will miss this game before being re-evaluated Saturday.

The Suns did beat the Pacers on Sunday night, 117-110. In that game, one of the problems for Indiana was it did not convert its free throws. The Pacers made just 14-of-23 from the charity stripe, but otherwise played the Suns tight.

Indiana had significant difficulty on offense though, scoring a paltry 96.7 points per 100 plays in the half court with an Offensive Rating of 111.1, per Cleaning the Glass. That was the first game without Haliburton and with Siakam, so it was expected that the offense might take some time to come together. The offense has steadily improved now in each of the last two games, and they’ve rallied around Siakam.

Pascal Siakam has seen a significant spike in his facilitating, recording his first triple-double of the season Thursday with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. I’d look for his assists in this game.

Suns vs. Pacers Picks, Odds

This should be an exciting rematch from Sunday, although I wish Haliburton was taking part in this one. When these teams met Sunday, the Suns were 7-point favorites. They opened as 6-point favorites in this one, but the line has been steamed down to as low as 4.5. While I agree that the 6-point opener was steep, at 4.5 points, I like the Suns.

Phoenix’s shot profile is perfect for attacking this Pacers defense, which allows mid-range jumpers by design. Siakam is a better defensive option than Obi Toppin, but this Indiana defense is still just average.

I’ll lay the points with the Suns on the road in a spot in which the offense should be able to take care of business against a Pacers team that is at a rest disadvantage.

Pick: Suns -4.5
