Sunday's WNBA Best Bets

Action Network contributor Jim Turvey breaks down his top WNBA bets for Sunday, June 25th, including picks for Wings vs. Sparks.

Sunday brings a three-game slate for the WNBA and plenty of action for basketball bettors.

The W has been a fun roller coaster this season in which underdogs have had their moment, but in the past week, things have looked to level out a bit.

Sunday’s slate features three games all between 3.5 and 7.5-point spreads, with some of the lower totals we’ve seen. And with player props out bright and early this week, there are plenty of actionable bets for hungry bettors!

The Sun were dealt devastating news on Saturday, officially learning that their center, Brionna Jones, will miss the rest of the season. They were without Jones last game, and it didn’t seem to bother them as they ran over the Lynx, 89-68.

However, they will face a stiffer test on Sunday in the form of the Chicago Sky. The Sky have slipped to 5-8 and have lost five straight, but they are a solid team with a particularly strong defense.

Sun star (and MVP candidate this season) Alyssa Thomas is averaging 14.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season, already impressive numbers, but those should continue to improve with Jones out. According to pbpstats, Thomas scores almost five more points per 100 possessions with Jones off the court while her rebound numbers rise slightly.

I’ll be targeting her points prop as the books haven’t quite adjusted to Jones being out, in part because the Sun won by so much last game. AT scored right around her season average last game, but that was because she played just 28 minutes instead of her typical 35-40 minutes a game. That helped hide the jump in points per minute, and as such, Thomas over 15.5 points is my best bet of the day.

Pick: Alyssa Thomas Over 15.5 Points

Make sure to check out the full preview for this game here, but I’ve got a trio of favorite plays from the game.

For player props, I’ll be looking at a pair of rebounding opportunities for the Liberty. There are two players whom books have posted at 6.5 rebounds–one should not be that high, and one should not be that low.

Jonquel Jones has cleared this in four of the last six games, and her minutes are only increasing as the season goes along. Her floor is basically at six rebounds right now, and while the Mystics are a tricky matchup, her high floor makes this an appealing bet.

Ionescu, on the other hand, hasn’t cleared 6.5 rebounds in a month, and while she has been close several times, she appears to be the person losing rebounds to Jonquel in recent weeks.

Finally, I’ll be looking at the first-half over in this game. These are two teams that have come out of the gate incredibly hot all season but faded in the second halves of games. They have two of the three best first-half Offensive Ratings, so looking to the over in this spot.

Pick: Jonquel Jones Over 6.5 Rebounds

Pick: Sabrina Ionescu Under 6.5 Rebounds

The Wings and Sparks run back their matchup from Friday as the final game of the day, and while the Sparks held on to win Friday, it’s the Wings who have taken money heading into Sunday.

I’ll be looking to a team total instead, though, with the Wings over catching my eye. Dallas tallied only 74 points in the Friday matchup, but that was due to rough shooting luck. The Wings were 5-of-24 from 3 and saw their two stars, Arike Ogunbowale and Satou Sabally, go under their season averages by a combined dozen points.

I’ll also be looking to fade Kalani Brown. The young center is losing minutes with Teaira McCowan now back, and while she maintained her numbers in her first game with McCowan back, her minutes decrease has been notable, and in the second game she tallied just three points and four rebounds. Bet her to grab under 7.5 rebounds at DraftKings, and I would play it to under 5.5 at plus money.

Bet: Wings Over 81.5 | Kalani Brown Under 7.5 Rebounds
