Phoenix Suns
The Suns survived two scares in the first round: an Injury to their star player and an unexpected six-game battle from the No. 8 seed.
Devin Booker, who missed most of the series with a hamstring issue, was able to return much sooner than initially anticipated and appears to be in good enough condition to play in the Western Conference semifinals. Chris Paul filled the role of do-it-all superstar admirably averaging 22.3 points and 11.3 assists in the first round.
The Suns have the lowest Net Rating (+2.2) of any team that has advanced, however, they are just behind the Golden State Warriors on the NBA Finals oddsboard at +350.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks also survived a scare in Round 1 after Luka Doncic suffered a calf injury in the regular season final. Doncic returned and averaged 36.2 minutes in three games, so he should also be ready for Round 2. Dallas’ role players stepped up in Doncic’s absence, especially Jalen Brunson, and they will be key against the league’s best team.
The Mavericks have proven to be a tough team from beyond their best player and this series could easily go deep into Round 2. FanDuel has the odds for the total games played listed at +220 for five games, +210 for six games and +195 for seven.
