Magic vs. Kings Odds & Picks: The Road Dog is Barking in Sacramento

Ryan Noonan of Betsperts and 4for4Bets is looking to take the points with the Magic on the road in Sacramento on Monday night.

The Orlando Magic got off to a slow start this season, which wasn’t a surprise to most around the league, but they’ve started to find a groove of late, and it’s coming on the defensive side of the ball. They’re 10-5 over their past 15 contests, and they’ll look to keep it rolling on the road tonight in Sacramento.

Magic +6.5 (-114, FanDuel)

The Kings are significantly better at home compared to on the road this season, but they’re struggling defensively right now, and I think that continues tonight against this young Magic lineup. The trio of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Markelle Fultz is elevating the Magic right now, and both Banchero (33 points and 16 rebounds) and Wagner (31 points) feasted in the closely contested November meeting, won with a last-second De’Aaron Fox 3-pointer.

The Magic also have some interesting home and road splits, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. They’re among the bottom half of teams in terms of overall defensive efficiency and opponent shooting percentage allowed, but they’re top-five in both metrics on the road this season. That played out on Saturday night in Golden State, where Orlando opened their five-game road trip with a 115-101 win against the Warriors, limited Golden State to just 37.5 percent shooting from the field.

The Kings are on the other side of the defensive spectrum right now, and you can make the case that they’re the worst defensive team in the league. Sacramento is near the bottom of the NBA, allowing 117.3 points per game, but things have been worse lately. The Kings have given up at least 120 points in nine of the past 13 contests and allow a league-high 50.7% opponent shooting percentage at home on the season.

Give me the points here. I’m backing the Magic.
