Pre-Draft Outlook

The Cavaliers took another step this season, reaching the East semifinals after making their departures at the Play-In Tournament and first-round levels the previous two seasons. Evan Mobley made strides in the postseason as the offensive option folks had been projecting, and Donovan Mitchell even expressed his desire to sign an extension. That didn’t stop management from firing coach J.B. Bickerstaff, and one way or the other the Cavs might look to break up the Mitchell-Darius Garland backcourt.

The Way To Go

For many teams on the way up, the No. 20 pick would offer a nice tweak for the future, a way to get young talent in the door for future contributions. Cleveland might need more from the rookie pulled at that spot, pending roster decisions that include free agent-to-be Isaac Okoro, whose D was better than his 3 in the playoffs. Several Mock Drafts have offered up guard Carlton (Bub) Carrington of Pittsburgh as a worthy addition, an 18-year-old big enough to play either backcourt spot with lottery potential if he had waited another year or two to enter the Draft.
