Overview

The younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers guard Max Christie, Cam Christie is a one-and-done prospect who spent his lone year in college playing for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Big Ten. He started in 26 of his 33 appearances, averaging 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.6 steals. He also shot a respectable 39.1 percent from three-point range. Christie was also named to the 2023-24 Big Ten All-Freshman team.

Analysis

Christie looks the part of a shooting guard at the next level and has the ideal size at 6-foot-6 with excellent athleticism, above-average length and a sweet shooting stroke. On the surface, he has the makings of a player who can be a regular at the next level based on his frame and athleticism. He also possesses the versatility to play several different roles on both ends of the court. He isn’t an elite athlete, but he compensates with burst and explosiveness, a trait that is more noticeable on the open court. Christie has above-average handles for a player whose offensive game relies mostly on his shot. He’s also a better passer than given credit for and has top-notch instincts. His decision-making still needs work and he needs to get stronger to reach his projected ceiling on the defensive end of the court. Despite his athleticism, he isn’t strong enough to take on bigger guards or small forwards.

Projection

Christie stands out due to his energy and shooting ability but needs to devote more time to improving on the defensive end of the court to reach his ceiling. Don’t be surprised if he starts his career in the G League. Given the similarity of traits, Christie could end up having a similar career to his brother.
