The Philadelphia 76ers will be without their All-Star point guard until at least the start of April as he continues to mend from his back injury.

The Sixers announced Wednesday that Simmons, who has been out since Feb. 22, “is continuing to progress in his rehabilitation, and is receiving daily treatment and gradually increasing his activities in his strength and conditioning program. He will be re-evaluated in 3 weeks.” He has missed time because of a nerve impingement in his lower back.

He is averaging 16.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 2.1 steals in 35.7 minutes per game and his injury came began a string of them for the 76ers. Center Joel Embiid has been out since Feb. 26 with a left shoulder injury and swingman Josh Richardson has been out since March 1, when he suffered a concussion in a road loss to the LA Clippers.

Embiid and Richardson went through practice on Tuesday and there is some hope that they could play tonight when the Sixers host the Detroit Pistons (7 ET, League Pass).

The Sixers are 38-26 overall this season and have lost five of their last 10 games. They are the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, but only trail the No. 5-seeded Indiana Pacers by 1/2 a game and are 5 1/2 games behind the No. 3-seeded Boston Celtics.
