With the 2023-24 season wrapped up, it's a great time to look back on some of the highlights and moments we'll remember.

The Sixers gathered at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, for their first official practices of the 2023-24 campaign and their first practices led by Nick Nurse and his coaching staff.&nbsp;

The Sixers notched their first win of the season, and the first win of the Nurse era, in Toronto on Oct. 28. The Sixers won, 114-107, with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey each scoring a co-team-high 34 points en route to victory.

The 76ers defeated the Pacers, 137-126, marking the team's eighth consecutive victory. Philadelphia's 8-1 record marked the 10th time in team history – and the first time since the 2000-01 season, that the 76ers won eight of their first nine games to open a campaign. Maxey scored a then-career-high 50 points on 20-of-32 shooting (7-11 3fg), to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Embiid’s first 50-point game of the season came at Washington on Dec. 6, powering the Sixers to a 131-126 victory. He finished with 50 points, 13 rebounds - including six offensive rebounds - seven assists, a steal, and a block. Maxey added 26 points and seven assists with zero turnovers.

The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves, 127-113. Embiid (51 points, 12 rebounds) tallied his 12th consecutive game with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds, marking the longest such streak since the NBA-ABA merger. Maxey added 35 points.

Embiid Sets Career-High with 70 Point Performance

The 76ers extended their win streak to six straight games behind Embiid’s historic night as he set a 76ers franchise record with 70 points (24-41 fg) while hauling in 18 rebounds and dishing out five assists. Embiid became the only player in NBA history with at least 70 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists in a single game.

Maxey’s Second 50-point Game after being named first-time All-Star

With Embiid sidelined, Maxey scored 51 points at Utah, hours after being named a first-time NBA All-Star. In Maxey’s then-return to the court (ankle) he shot 17-for-27 from the field and made seven of his nine three point attempts. Tobias Harris added 28 points, five rebounds, and seven assists in the victory.

Embiid became the fifth 76er ever to earn at least seven NBA All-Star selections when he was named a starter, before being replaced due to injury.&nbsp;

Maxey, meanwhile, earned his first career All-Star nod as the fifth-youngest player in franchise history to receive the honor. He finished the 73rd NBA All-Star Game with 10 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a win.

Maxey Sets Career-High with 52-point Game

In a double-overtime affair at San Antonio, Maxey notched his now-career-high 52 points en route to a 133-126 victory over the Spurs and Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama’s 33-point, 18-rebound, six-assist, seven-block performance.

Maxey totalled 52 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and two steals in a game-high 54 minutes of play.

Recording career-highs across the board (25.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 6.2 apg, 1.0 spg), Maxey won the 2023-24 Kia Most Improved Player award, over fellow finalists Coby White and Alperen Sengun.

Maxey sets Playoff Career-High and Forces Game 6

Maxey scored a playoff career-high 46 points - including 17 points in the fourth quarter alone - to thwart elimination in the Sixers’ 112-106 overtime victory in Game 5 at New York. Maxey finished with 46 points, five rebounds, and nine assists, shooting 17-for-30 from the field and 7-for-12 from deep. Embiid notched a 19-point, 16-rebound, 10-assist triple-double plus four blocks in the win.

Embiid and Maxey produced three 50-point games apiece this season. They became the first teammates in NBA history to each record at least three 50-point games in the same season.

2023-24 Sixers Memorable Moments

The scene was Madison Square Garden, and the star was Tyrese Maxey.

In Tuesday’s win-or-go-home Game 5, the first-time All-Star scored seven points in the final 26 seconds of regulation to force overtime. Maxey went on to score a playoff career-high 46 points, lifting his team to a 112-106 victory and forcing Game 6.

“What’s going through my mind?” Maxey reflected postgame. “Find a way to survive. Season’s on the line.”

There were 16 lead changes and six ties in Game 5. The Knicks (3-2) led by as many as 10, and the 76ers (2-3) led by as many as nine.

“Tonight, that fourth quarter, that last minute - what [Tyrese] was able to do was spectacular,” Tobias Harris (19 pts, 8 reb) said postgame. “It was a big time game from a big time player.

Maxey called the strength of his own performance “mandatory.” He played 52 minutes.

Now, with the Sixers’ stakes just as high, the series shifts back to South Philadelphia.

The series features the three highest scorers in these playoffs, with New York’s Jalen Brunson (34.4 ppg) leading all scorers. Maxey (32.4 ppg) is second in scoring and Joel Embiid (31.8 ppg) is third.

Embiid - who recorded his first career playoff triple-double in Game 5, commended his co-star’s heroics postgame.

“[Tyrese] has always been like that. But tonight, based on the circumstances… He just had to do it. And he did it. That’s why he’s such an amazing basketball player.”

“I trust my work,” Maxey said after his career night. “I trust what I’ve done all my life. Just try to get to a spot, raise up, and knock a shot down.”

Brunson poured in 40 points, plus three rebounds, six assists, and three steals in Game 5 to lead New York.

Josh Hart - who played a game-high 53 minutes - added 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, while OG Anunoby recorded 17 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Miles McBride led the New York bench once again, finishing with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting, plus four boards and four assists.

Embiid (left knee injury recovery) is questionable for Game 6, while Robert Covington (left knee bone bruise) is out.

For New York, Mitchell Robinson (left ankle sprain) is questionable, and Bojan Bogdanovic (left foot surgery) and Julius Randle (right shoulder surgery) are out.

Embiid credited his teammates for their performances postgame:

“It went in our favor, thanks to Tyrese Maxey. He was unbelievable. Hitting big shots after big shots. Lots of credit to him. Tobias was amazing throughout the whole game. All my teammates, they did their job.”

Game 6 Thursday is a 9 p.m. EDT start in South Philadelphia.

The Sixers are scheduled to wear their blue Icon Edition uniforms, while the Knicks will wear their white Association Edition uniforms.

The Sixers announced that their ‘Bricken for Chicken’ promotion (presented by Chick-fil-A) which proved pivotal in the team’s comeback victory in their Play-In win over Miami, will be in effect for the entirety of Game 6 (usually only active in the second half). Fans will win free chicken for any pair of New York missed free throws.

76ers Force Game 6, Bringing Knicks Back to South Philadelphia | NBA Playoffs Gameday Report

The 76ers (1-3) visit the New York Knicks (3-1) Tuesday at Madison Square Garden for Game 5 of their first-round playoff series.

The Sixers fell, 97-92, at home on Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia led by 10 points after the first quarter and again early in the third quarter.

Now, what’s the approach facing a win-or-go-home game on the road?

“The message you send is it’s first to four,” Tyrese Maxey said immediately following the setback. “They got three already, so we got to go up there and fight for our lives, fight for our season. That’s what it is.”

76ers Head Coach Nick Nurse offered his thoughts on the Knicks’ comeback:

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well tonight. And I thought once we got a 10-point lead, I think we turned it over three of the next four possessions. We had really great rhythm going and it’s almost like we took ourselves out of rhythm with those turnovers. I mean we were really rolling there and then it got a little difficult to find a rhythm. And then listen, we executed a lot of stuff, making the right reads, and didn’t knock some of those shots down. Missed a couple of layups. There were some clunky possessions here and there. It’s playoffs and both teams have those, but mostly [we] just needed to knock a few of those in and finish a little tougher at the rim.”

Jalen Brunson scored a playoff career-high 47 points for New York.

Jalen Brunson’s 47 points Sunday in Philadelphia set a Knicks franchise scoring record for a single playoff game. Brunson added 10 assists, four rebounds, and a blocked shot in 43 minutes of play.

OG Anunoby notched a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double with three blocks in 47 minutes. Josh Hart shot 0-for-7 from the field (4-8 ft), but grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds and also blocked three shots in 46 minutes. Miles McBride added 13 points off the bench.

For Philadelphia on the Game 5 injury report, Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery) is questionable and Robert Covington (left knee bone bruise) is out.

New York’s Bojan Bogdanovic left the previous game with a left foot contusion and is now out, while Julius Randle (right shoulder surgery) remains out. Mitchell Robinson (left ankle sprain) - who did not play Sunday - is questionable. Jalen Brunson (right knee contusion) and Jericho Sims (right shoulder inflammation) are probable.

Tyrese Maxey on the team’s confidence level…

“It's a confident group, honestly. We've been through a lot this year and we know that. When adversity hits, we know how to bounce back from it. And I think we feel like we're very capable of winning three games in a row. I'll say that first and foremost. We've been very, very, very close in a lot of these games. Game 2 and [Game 4], for sure, we feel like we should've won. So we'll take that confidence over there and try to go win. That's all we can do.”

Game 5 Tuesday is a 7 p.m. EDT start at Madison Square Garden.

The 76ers (1-2) have a chance to get even Sunday in their first round matchup with the New York Knicks (2-1), in a matinee matchup in South Philadelphia.

After New York took care of their home court in Games 1 and 2, the Sixers returned the favor in Thursday’s Game 3 - a 125-114 Philadelphia victory.

Joel Embiid delivered a historic performance in the win, scoring a playoff career-high 50 points on just 19 shots (13-19 FG, 5-7 3FG, 19-21 FT).

Embiid, recovering from injury and playing through illness, discussed his will to overcome adversity postgame.

“I just love playing the game - I want to be on the floor as much as possible,” Embiid said. “I’m not a quitter. I’m going to keep fighting through anything.”

Tyrese Maxey shone once again, finishing with 25 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.

Nick Nurse commended his star duo’s growth and cooperation Friday:

“I know they’re a good tandem. They’re both really great people. They both care a lot. They’re both superstars. They’re in that boat together.”

Embiid and Maxey are the highest-scoring duo in these playoffs thus far, with Embiid leading the NBA in playoff scoring (37.7 ppg), and Maxey the fourth-highest playoff scorer (31.0 ppg).

Leading the bench unit in Game 3 was Cam Payne, who was called upon after playing just three minutes in the series prior to Game 3. He scored 11 points in his 16 minutes.

“He’s just so positive,” Maxey said of Payne’s performance. “Everybody says I’m positive, but he’s extremely positive. He’s jumping around and having a great time. And he’s always vocal on the bench. We appreciate him for being who he was tonight.”

Following Sunday’s matchup, the series will shift back to New York City, where the Sixers and Knicks will meet Tuesday for Game 5.

Jalen Brunson led the way for New York in Game 3, notching a 39-point, 13-assist double-double. Brunson shot 13-for-27 from the field, 3-for-7 from deep, and 10-for-12 from the foul line.

Josh Hart continues to excel in the series, recording 20 points (including 4-for-8 shooting from long range), six rebounds, and six assists. Hart is shooting 52.2% from 3-point territory in the series.

Brunson leads the Knicks in scoring (28.3 ppg) and sharing (8.7 apg) in the playoffs thus far, while Hart leads New York in rebounding (11.3 rpg) and steals (1.3 spg).

De’Anthony Melton (spine) returned to the active roster for the first time in the playoffs for Game 3. He is not on the injury report for Game 4.

The 76ers (0-2) and New York Knicks (2-0) resume play Thursday, with the Sixers taking their home floor for the first time in the best-of-seven series. Game 3 of the first-round matchup between the No. 2 Knicks and No. 7 Sixers is at 7:30 p.m. EDT (NBC Sports Philadelphia, TNT / TRUTV, and 97.5 The Fanatic) in Philadelphia.

"Well, again, it's a long series,” 76ers Head Coach Nick Nurse said Monday in the immediate aftermath of a hectic 104-101 Game 2 loss at New York. “[We’re] looking at how we can play better, and we're going to get back home.”

Nurse speaks from experience. His 2019 championship run with Toronto included the Raptors facing a 2-0 deficit to Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference Finals. They won the series with four consecutive victories.

"I did briefly mention it,” Nurse said of his comeback experience following Wednesday’s practice at the Penn Medicine Philadelphia 76ers Training Complex. “Like, 'I've been here before, let's go.' We've played probably well enough to win both games, to be honest, but we didn't. It's a long series. I've been here before. It's really doable. All that kind of stuff, but just got to dial in on one right now.”

The Knicks rallied Monday for the three-point win after trailing 101-96 with 47.3 seconds remaining. A Jalen Brunson corner three preceded a Josh Hart steal and Donte DiVincenzo’s go-ahead triple with 13.1 seconds left. The NBA ruled Tuesday afternoon that fouls should have been called on both Brunson and Hart during the turnover sequence.

Tyrese Maxey (35 pts) and reigning MVP Joel Embiid (34 pts) combined for 69 Sixers’ points.

The NBA also announced Tuesday that first-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey is the 2023-24 Kia NBA Most Improved Player.

Maxey - who averaged career highs in points (25.9), rebounds (3.7), assists (6.2), and steals (1.0) per game during his fourth NBA season - is the second 76er ever to earn the award, joining 1994-95 recipient Dana Barros.

“Congratulations, Tyrese! The Most Improved Player award is a testament to your incredible work ethic including countless early mornings in the gym perfecting your craft,” Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey said. “Your journey to All-Star in just your fourth season is inspirational to everyone who watches you play. Your dedication to continuous improvement and excellence has you on the path from MIP to MVP.”

Jalen Brunson scored a team-high 24 points for the Knicks in Game 2, but was limited to 8-for-29 shooting from the field (1-6 3fg), bringing him to 29% shooting (16-55 fg) for the series. Brunson led the Knicks to a 50-32 regular season record with 28.7 points (4th NBA) and 6.7 assists per game, shooting 40.1% from 3-point range on nearly seven attempts per contest.

Donte DiVincenzo - also a 40.1% shooter from deep during the regular season - added 19 points (5-10 fg, 4-8 3fg, 5-5 ft) for New York. DiVincenzo was third in the NBA in made threes this season with a franchise-record 283, trailing only Stephen Curry (357) and Luka Dončić (284).

Josh Hart scored 19 of his 21 points (7-16 fg, 4-7 3fg, 3-4 ft) in the first half Monday, while collecting a game-high 15 rebounds in a full 48 minutes of action.

Philadelphia’s injury report includes Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery) and De’Anthony Melton (back injury recovery) as questionable, and Robert Covington (left knee bone bruise) as out.&nbsp;

"He practiced today,” Nick Nurse said of Melton Wednesday afternoon. “There's a chance that he can possibly be available [Thursday].”

New York’s Mitchell Robinson (left ankle injury management) is questionable. Julius Randle (right shoulder surgery) is out for the season.

De’Anthony Melton on this Sixers team’s ceiling and his motivation to get healthy…

“I feel like when this team is fully healthy, and we've got everybody going, I feel like we're the best team in the league.”
