Matchup History
The history between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks dates back more than 60 years, and started when both franchises called the Empire State home. In the inaugural NBA season, the Syracuse Nationals and the Knickerbockers played twice, with the team that would eventually become the Sixers sweeping the series.
Since then, the teams have played 473 times in the regular season (the 76ers have a 264-209 record) and 39 times in the postseason (23-16), most notably in the 1983 Eastern Conference semifinals, before the Julius Erving, Moses Malone, and the Sixers would go on to win the NBA Championship.
The Sixers faced the Knicks in four games during the 2022-23 season, with the Sixers winning on Christmas Day in Madison Square Garden, the “World’s Most Famous Arena” 119-112. The 76ers took down the Knicks again on February 10, this time at home, with Embiid and Tyrese Maxey combining for 62 points.
The Sixers and Knicks faced off four times during the 2023-24 regular season. New York came out on top, taking three of the four matchups.
The 76ers and Knicks faced off in the 1st round of the 2023-24 NBA Playoffs. This nail-biter series resulted in a 4-2 victory for the Knicks. Each game was decided by less than 10 points, with the exception of the Sixers Game 3 victory with a final score of 125-114. Joel Embiid recorded 50 points in Game 3, while Tyrese Maxey scored 46 points in Game 5, forcing Game 6 with mere seconds left.
The Sixers look to come back in full force for their 2024-25 season contests against the Knicks. The two teams face off three more times, twice on the road and once at home. Their first matchup against the Knicks on November 12 at home was a part of the NBA Emirates Cup, with the Sixers falling 111-99 to New York. The Knicks visit Philadelphia again on January 15. The 76ers play at MSG on February 26 and April 1.
