School Comes First
School Assembly Fundraiser

The Detroit Pistons' School Assembly Fundraiser program will visit nearly 100 schools during the NBA season, giving elementary, middle and high school students the opportunity to see a one-of-a-kind performance that only the Pistons can offer.

Each assembly is designed to reinforce positive life skills and inspire students to strive toward success in the classroom. The assemblies are also jam-packed with interactive fun, including trivia contests for Pistons giveaways, a dunk show by the Flight Crew and the ever-popular “teachers-versus-students” shooting competition. But the message that “School Comes First” still resonates after the entertainment has ended.

The "Homework before Hoops" assemblies are conducted by Aaron Smith, the director of the Year-Round Hoops program, with assistance from YRH manager Donease Smith, the Pistons’ mascot, Hooper, and Hooper’s trampoline dunk team, the Flight Crew.

Assemblies can be scheduled free of charge. Schools that are interested can also participate in the fundraising opportunity that is offered with every assembly visit. Click on the links below to learn more about the different aspects of the School Assembly Fundraiser program.

Two Sides of the Same Assembly The Highlight Reel
There’s a lot to like about the Pistons’ “Homework before Hoops” assemblies. At the beginning of the school year, we focused on the message Aaron brings to the students about the importance of respecting adults and themselves. Last year, we chronicled what Hooper & The Flight Crew can do for school spirit - even high schoolers
Students of all grade levels have enjoyed the “Homework before Hoops” assemblies, but you don’t have to take our word for it. Check out the highlight reel to see the excitement for yourself.
Need a Class Fundraiser? How to Bring the Pistons to Your School
Schools get their money’s worth from the fundraising opportunity that comes with an assembly. Students sell $25 tickets to an upcoming Pistons game, with $10 of every ticket sold going back to the school. “It wasn’t hard, everyone loves the Pistons,” said one mother. “We’ve done candy, pizza, but this is the most fun. I would do it again.”
To request a Pistons School Assembly at your school, contact Year-Round Hoops Director Aaron Smith by filling out the request form, emailing him at asmith@palacenet.com, or by calling him at 248.377.0134.
