Jason Kapono to Participate in NBA All-Star Three-Point Shoot Out

MIAMI, February 8 – The Miami HEAT announced today that forward Jason Kapono will participate in the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout at the 2007 NBA All-Star Saturday Night event in Las Vegas. The NBA All-Star Saturday Night event presented by EA SPORTS will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center on Feb. 17.

Players will compete in a two-round competition with the top three finishers from the first round advancing to the finals. Five shooting stations will be set up around the three-point line, with four orange balls worth one point each and one multi-colored ball (money ball) worth two points at each location. Each player will have one minute to shoot as many balls as he can. In the final round, players will shoot in each ascending order of first round scores. At the discretion of the referee, television instant replay may be consulted for clarification of rules compliance.

Kapono, who leads the entire NBA in three-point accuracy at 55.9 percent, will become the third HEAT player to be represented in the event. Glen Rice, who competed in 1991, won the event in 1995 while Jon Sundvold competed in 1989 and then again in 1990. Kapono, currently in his fourth year in the league, is averaging a career-best 11.1 points per game while shooting career highs in field goal percentage (.526), three-point percentage (.559) and free throw percentage (.911) and has made a career-best 85 three-point field goals.

Other invitees joining Kapono include Dirk Nowitzki, Gilbert Arenas, Jason Terry, Damon Jones and Mike Miller.
