April 27, 2004 | New Orleans Arena | Miami HEAT - 85 | New Orleans Hornets - 96

HEAT Head Coach Stan Van Gundy

“I thought the key to the game was their shooting the ball really well especially in the first half and their end-of-the-shot-clock shots. They just kept us at bay. They hit huge shots at the end of the shot clock. A lot of times that’s what it comes down to against good defense. They hit several huge shots and we were not able to. We were not able to make the big shots that they made.”

On Hornets bench:
“The guys that really hurt us were Augmon and Lynch. For them to get 28 points at that position…they just dominated that spot today and that’s what killed us in the game.”

On Baron Davis:
“They got a great game from an all-pro guard. He hit some unbelievably difficult shots on us, but I don’t think we did that bad defensively on him.”

On status of the series:
“We won two at home and they won two at home. Obviously it changes if we were up 3-1 it would be very different, but it’s a three-game series. We have tow at home and they have one here. I don’t see it as a major, major concern. I didn’t come here thinking we were going to sweep them. We are two evenly matched teams. We knew for four games it would go down to the absolute wire. We got one of those at home and they got two here. Now, it’s a three-game series.”

HEAT Guard Dwyane Wade

About the game tonight, and what needs to be different:
“We have to do a better job of getting back in transition, they got a lot of transition baskets. I think we did a good job on defense at the end. They hit a lot of tough shots we couldn’t do anything about. We have to be better defensively in the full court.”

About going back home to get advantage back:
“You don’t worry about that at all, its another game. It’s a game, but just because you go home doesn’t mean it’s an automatic win. They took care of their turf just like we took care of our turf the first time, so it’s a whole new series again.”

HEAT Guard Eddie Jones

On 3 of 10 3pt shooting:
"I just had to shoot over the top of their defense. I felt like they were good shots that were going to fall, but they didn’t."

On the Heat play defensively:
“We gave up a lot of easy points by not playing the type of defense we needed to play. We made mistakes on defense which led to lay-ups or 2nd chance points.”

On play of Baron Davis:
““He played great. He is a great player. But some of those shots were unbelievable. But that happens some nights to a great player. Everything he throws up falls.”

Hornets Head Coach Tim Floyd

On play of George Lynch and Stacey Augmon:
“We got tremendous production from our small forward spot…George Lynch and Stacey Augmon. I thought that was the real differential in terms of our point production. They both finished everything and just made plays, big plays….They both guarded really hard and had tough assignments.”

On David West:
“We got very good play off the bench from David West. We wanted to get (Jamaal) Magloire back in, but West was just playing so well.”

On Baron Davis and the Hornets shot selection:
“I felt that early he got us going offensively. He was aggressive with the penetration. We just have to have that with our team. He did it in the open floor, but he (also) did it in late clock situations. We only took m5 3’s in the first half, which we loved. And as a result, we shot a percentage. There were more separation on our shots. I just thought our selection was good. But he’s a tough guy. He came out and fought it. I don’t know where his conditioning is, but he didn’t want out.”

On the importance of tying the series:
“It was very important because without the win you have to beat them twice on their home floor. They’ve been very good at home. They won their last 11 regular season games there. So, it was certainly important. We didn’t put it in a must win situation with our players. They understood that (on their own). It just gives you a chance. You still have to go get one on the road. Hopefully, we have a little more confidence now going down there, in terms of how we have to play against them. "

On the respect for the Heat:
“We have a great deal of respect. They are a resilient group. No lead is safe. They continue to come at you and bring at the rim every possession. It will be tough down there.”

Hornets Guard Baron Davis

“We have just been fighting and persevering. We have been in this situation before, down 0-2, we were down 0-2 last year and Philly just outplayed us down the stretch to win game four and to force that hand. We just willed it out tonight. Guys stepped up and made shots and we had big defensive plays, we got some charge calls and some key rebounds. It was a collective effort tonight and everybody who came played.

“We have a lot of confidence and we know we can go into Miami and win game five. It is just a matter of us playing with consistency and a lot more poise on the road. We know what it takes to win on the road and game five is going to be very physical, probably the most physical game of this series so far and we know we are going to have to fight tooth and nail to pull out a victory.”

Hornets Guard Darrell Armstrong

“Tonight’s game was real important. We just wanted to come in and take one game at a time and try to even the series and make it a three game series. Now we need to go to Miami and try to get a win on Friday.” “It’ll be a big key for us to go get a win and come back home on Sunday. It’s an early game and we need to try then to close them out. But, we need the next one first.”
