CLEVELAND, OH - September 17th, 2008 - The Cavaliers are looking for kids who can shimmy and shake and want to show off their dance moves. The team is holding a workshop-audition for the Cavs Kids on
Sunday, September 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena. The youthful squad, made up of talented dancers and performers ages 5-13, has quickly became a crowd favorite. Due to their popularity in their first two seasons, last year the Cavs Kids performed in eight regular season games, and were called on to perform in a pivotal playoff game!
The workshop-audition will be a fun-filled afternoon running from approximately 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., with registration beginning at 12:00 p.m. The day will begin with a performance from the Cavs hip-hop dance troupe, the Scream Team, followed by a group warm up. The Children will participate in two learning sessions that incorporate diverse dance styles. Immediately afterward, participants will put on a performance for their parents/legal guardians to show off the skills they just learned. There will be an opportunity to showcase their freestyle dancing, and a question and answer session for the children and parents with the coaches, the Scream Team and the Cavalier Girls. Coaches are looking for energy, showmanship, personality, crowd appeal, ability to execute choreographed dance routines, and individual talent.
Requirements for the workshop-audition include a $10 registration fee and a non-returnable photograph. A parent or legal guardian must be present to register their child. Children should look performance ready wearing comfortable athletic clothes with sneakers. They are strongly encouraged to bring water and a small snack for breaks throughout the day.
The Cavs Kids dance troupe is run to teach children the responsibility of being part of a team, as well as provide a channel for them to display their talent and creativity. As members of the Cavs Kids, children will not only learn choreographed dances, but also train to explore their performance skills and gain a strong sense of self-worth while learning the importance of teamwork. Most of all, the kids will be encouraged to have fun doing what they love - dancing!
