Los Angeles and Oceanside, CA – The LA Clippers have announced that their G League team will relocate to Oceanside, Calif. and rebrand as the San Diego Clippers, starting play at the brand new Frontwave Arena for the 2024-25 season. The Clippers organization returns to the San Diego area, where the NBA team played from 1978-1984. The announcement was made at a press event at Frontwave Arena, where the new G League San Diego Clippers logo was unveiled.The currently named Ontario Clippers will complete the 2023-24 G League season in Ontario, Calif.“We are proud to re-introduce the San Diego Clippers into this passionate sports market,” said Halo Sports and Entertainment CEO Gillian Zucker. “Our G League team is a critical part of our business and basketball operation, and we are thrilled to be relocating to the new Frontwave Arena next season.”

The LA Clippers and Halo Sports and Entertainment - the new umbrella brand encompassing the Clippers and their G League team, the Kia Forum, and Intuit Dome - will partner with Frontwave Arena to run the business operations of the G League San Diego Clippers. LA Clippers President, Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank will continue to oversee basketball operations for both teams.

Expected to open this summer, Frontwave Arena will hold entertainment and sporting events including concerts, comedy shows, community events, and games for the San Diego Sockers professional indoor soccer team. The 7,500 capacity arena, located in Oceanside, California, will also have an outdoor plaza for additional performances, activities and, community gatherings.

The LA Clippers and their G League team maintain a close relationship between players and staff to maximize growth and resources. Twelve of the 18 players on the LA Clippers’ current roster have spent time in the G League during their career.&nbsp;

LA Clippers G League Team to Relocate and Rebrand as the San Diego Clippers for 2024-2025 Season

The LA Clippers have signed Kawhi Leonard to a contract extension, it was announced by President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank.

“We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with Kawhi. He is an elite player, a terrific partner and a relentless worker who knows how to win and makes it his first priority,” said Frank. “He elevated our franchise from the moment he arrived. We feel fortunate that Kawhi chose to join the Clippers five years ago, and excited to keep building with him.”  

Leonard is a two-time Finals MVP (2014, 2019), five-time All-Star (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021), five-time All-NBA Team selection (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021), two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2015, 2016) and a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. A native of Moreno Valley, Calif., Leonard has appeared in 660 career games across 12 NBA seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and LA Clippers, holding averages of 19.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals. The 6-foot-7 forward is the third-winningest player in NBA history with a regular-season record of 483-177 (.732). 

A two-time NBA Champion, Leonard is one of 12 players in NBA history with multiple Finals MVPs, appearing in 137 postseason games while averaging 21.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals. Regarded as one of the game’s greatest two-way players, Leonard has been selected to seven All-Defensive Teams (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021) and is one of three players in NBA history to win a Finals MVP, Defensive Player of the Year Award and All-Star Game MVP (2020).  

Selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Leonard played two collegiate seasons at San Diego State University, where he was a second-team All-American in 2011 and had his jersey retired in 2020.&nbsp;

LA Clippers Sign Kawhi Leonard to Contract Extension

The LA Clippers have signed center Daniel Theis, announced Lawrence Frank, Clippers president of basketball operations. &nbsp;Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Theis, 31, has appeared in 314 games with the Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls, averaging 7.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 54.2% from the field. The 6-foot-8 center has also appeared in 40 playoff games, averaging 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 52.7% from the field. A native of Salzgitter, Germany, Theis won a gold medal with Germany at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where he averaged 10.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists in eight games.&nbsp;

The LA Clippers selected University of Miami forward Jordan Miller with the 48th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

“Jordan is a tough wing defender and a crafty scorer,” said Lawrence Frank, Clippers president of basketball operations. “He is a slasher, a connector and a glue guy who does what the team needs. He also has an infectious, upbeat personality. We’re excited to add him to the team.”

Miller, 23, averaged 15.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 54.5% from the floor during his senior season at Miami. The 6-foot-7 forward helped the Hurricanes to a Final Four appearance, earning NCAA Tournament All-Region Team honors after scoring 27 points in the Elite Eight. During his collegiate career, Miller averaged 12.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 142 appearances with Miami and George Mason. Born in Anaheim, Calif., Miller was named to the All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament Second Team in 2023.

The LA Clippers selected University of Missouri forward Kobe Brown with the 30th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

"Kobe is a strong, tough, experienced power forward who is extremely agile for his size,” said Lawrence Frank, Clippers president of basketball operations. “He is an excellent passer with a high IQ and tremendous feel. We enjoyed getting to know Kobe in the draft process. He is mature and engaging, and we think he’ll be a great fit with the group.”

Brown, 23, averaged 15.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 55.3% from the floor and 45.5% from beyond the arc during his senior season at Missouri. The 6-foot-7 forward was the only player in the nation and the first SEC player since 1992-93 to shoot better than 55% from the field and 45% from three. He led the Tigers in scoring and rebounding for the second-straight season, earning All-SEC First Team honors. During his four seasons at Missouri, Brown averaged 10.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 123 appearances. The Huntsville, Ala., native was the 2022-23 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a 2021-22 All-SEC Second Team honoree.

The NBA announced that LA Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank has been named the 2019-20 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year.

“L is a passionate, dedicated, and selfless leader. I am proud of the work he and his group are doing, and thrilled his peers feel the same way,” said Steve Ballmer, Clippers Chairman. “This award is a great tribute to the hard work done by the entire front office, including our General Manager Michael Winger, Assistant GMs Mark Hughes and Trent Redden, and consultant Jerry West. Together, they have worked to develop every facet of our basketball operations department.”

In his third year as the Clippers President of Basketball Operations, Frank and the front office shaped a roster headlined by two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and six-time All-Star Paul George. At the trade deadline, they acquired Marcus Morris Sr., who averaged career-highs in points per game (16.7) and three-point percentage (40.8%). This marks the second time in franchise history that a Clippers executive has won the award, and the first time in Frank’s career.
